GDP up 6.6% in first quarter: government meeting
The government reported significant changes in socio-economic development in the first three months of the year including high increases in industrial growth, social investment and budget revenue and GDP up 6.6% as compared to the same period last year.
This were announced at a monthly meeting of the government chaired by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai in Hanoi on April 4.
The government focused on discussing the draft decree regulating the detailed implementation of Law on Marriage and Family, the decree on abrogation of some licences management and the draft Ordinance on Post and Telecommunications.
The government pointed out a number of challenges such as low export turnover and droughts and fires in different localities.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai asked ministries and sectors concerned to further concentrate on solving some pressing issues such as industrial production, especially in Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau; agricultural production and prevention of drought and forest fire; boosting export of goods and services.
The prime minister stressed the importance of co-ordination between the central agencies and localities to serve effective implementation of socio-economic targets.
He also called for further efforts to fight against social evils and poverty, create more jobs and measures to limit traffic accidents
