Taiwan firm invests in export vermicelli
(SGT- 21/3/2002)- Chuan Chin Hsing Co. ofTaiwan is building an export-vermicelli factory on 2.6 hectares of Sa Dec Industrial Parkin Dong Thap Province, the first in the Mekong Delta.

The US$2.7-million plant will be able to supply 4;000 tonsper annum, all for shipment to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia, according to Sa Decmanagement.

Construction began last week, while commercial productionemploying 340 people is scheduled to start in four months. Around 30% of supplies willcome from local growers of green beans while the balance in corn starch and wheat flourwill be imported.

Chuan Chin Hsing is the second all-foreign projectlicensed into Sa Dec, which has attracted 12 projects with combined investment capital ofVND94.5 billion and US$8.7 million.

The first license went to an Indian company butconstruction has yet to start.
