Vietnam aims high for vegetable,fruit exportTradepromotion will be the core of the project, under which Vietnamese enterprises will beassisted to open more branches and rep offices in foreign countries to spur exports ofvegetables and fruits.
Resources will also be focused on building more centerswhich will provide information on local vegetables and fruits, inspect product quality andsupply high quality products. In addition, enterprises will be covered 50% of their airtickets' fees and stall rent when joining overseas exhibitions.
To materialize the project, some VND 16 trillion will beneeded for producing and processing quality vegetables and fruits, building more storesand farms to produce high-yielding varieties. The funding will be sourced frominternational support programs, the State budget and foreign investment.
In addition, the ministry plans to propose the Governmentprovide tax incentives and financial support for vegetable and fruit production
and export.
Trade Ministry experts have proposed many measures torealize the project. These include developing larger-scale farming, which is considered asthe most important model to produce sufficient vegetables and fruits for export.
Farm owners in some remote areas will not face restrictionover cultivation acreage, and provided with
capital, seedlings, biological technology and cultivationtechniques.
The ministry will also pay special attention to attractingforeign investment in vegetable and fruit production and trading, and establishing jointventures with such experienced partners as the United States, France, Japan, Israel,Taiwan and China. Besides, joint ventures will be provided with incentives related to landrent, capital and infrastructure facilities.
This project together with another Ministry of Agricultureand Rural Development project to develop vegetables, fruits, flowers and ornamental treesbetween 1991 and 2010 will likely generate jobs for 6.3 million people, including 4.5million in production and 1.8 million in processing and service sectors.
