VIET NAM STRIVES TO EXPORT
50,000 TONNES OF PORK NEXT YEAR
Ha Noi, Dec. 17 (VNA) -- Viet Nam
should raise its pork export volume to 50,000 tonnes in 2002, said Deputy Prime
Minister Nguyen Cong Tan.
The Deputy PM spoke at a conference in Ha Noi on Dec. 17 to discuss
how to fully tap available resources to boost pork export in the 2001-2010
period.
To reach the target, Tan noted, the agriculture sector should
provide farmers with loans, suitable strains, veterinary services, and animal
feed.
He told the conference that Viet Nam has advantages in terms of its
labour force and expertise to expand pig farming. However, the animal husbandry
sector must further diversify pork products and seek more outlets.
Deputy PM Tan recommended the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development soon establish an animal husbandry insurance fund and an association
of for-export pig farmers to protect their interests and reduce their risks.
The Government has recently introduced policies on agriculture
promotion, including some on animal husbandry expansion.
Viet Nam is estimated to export 30,000 tonnes of pork this year,
the highest amount so far.--VNA
