SWITZERLAND VOWS TO BOLSTER
INVESTMENT IN VIET NAM
Geneva, Apr. 6 (VNA) -- Switzerland has
pledged to increase investment in and promote cooperation with Viet Nam in
manufacturing, processing, and tourism.
The commitment was made at a meeting that took place during a
two-day visit to Switzerland from Apr.4-5 by Viet Nam's Deputy Prime Minister
Nguyen Manh Cam and his host, the State Secretary in charge of economy.
Earlier, Cam had met with senior officials of the WTO, the UN
agencies in Europe and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in
Geneva to discuss Viet Nam's accession to the WTO.
Sweitzerland is interested in the production of chemicals,
pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering (especially precise engineering),
electronic and high-tech development, farm produce, aquatic products, and food
processing in Viet Nam.
Switzerland will also help Viet Nam, through the Swiss Import
Promotion Organization (SIPPO), export farm products such as rice, tea, coffee,
shrimp, and other aquatic products, especially to Switzerland and the European
Union.
The host also affirmed its full support for Viet Nam's entry into
the WTO.
Switzerland now has 28 investment projects in Viet Nam with a total
capital of more than USD 600 million, while the two-way trade value stood at USD
420 million last year.--VNA
