President Tran Duc Luong presented Viet Nam's "Friendship Order" to President Nujoma in recognition of his whole-hearted support for Viet Nam's past struggle for national independence and freedom as well as his great contributions to developing the traditional ties and bilateral cooperation between Viet Nam and Namibia.

VIETNAMESE, NAMIBIAN LEADERS AFFIRM SOLIDARITY

Ha Noi, July 27 (VNA) -- The solidarity between Viet Nam and Namibia was affirmed by President Tran Duc Luong of Viet Nam and President Sam Nujoma of Namibia during a banquet hosted by the Vietnamese leader in honour of the Namibian guest in Ha Noi on July 27.
President Luong said that although geographically far apart, Viet Nam and Namibia have always closely united in the past struggle for national independence and in the present process of building progressive and prosperous nations.
Namibia, an active member of the Non-aligned Movement (NAM), has been making active contributions to the promotion of the solidarity and the goals of the NAM, and boosting South-South cooperation, Luong said.
He went on to say that the role played by Namibia in maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southwestern Africa has been improved markedly.
"Despite many changes in the world, the fine relationship between our two countries has been unceasingly developed," Luong noted. He further said that Viet Nam and Namibia can be proud of their traditional solidarity and friendship, which have stood the test of time.
After affirming Viet Nam's fraternal ties with Namibia and other traditional friends in Africa, the Vietnamese leader pointed out that it is imperative for developing nations, including Viet Nam and Namibia, to strengthen their multi-faceted cooperation and coordination of action to protect their legitimate interests in the present globalisation process.
Luong described the freshly-signed Agreement on Economic-Commercial, Cultural, and Scientific-Technological Cooperation between the two countries as an important legal foundation for further enhancement of bilateral economic and commercial ties, thus putting them on a par with existing political ties. Relevant agencies and business circles of the two sides should exchange their views in order to find suitable and effective cooperation domains, the Vietnamese leader added.
The Namibian President expressed his wish for further cooperation with Viet Nam in agriculture, especially in rice production, and health care. He pointed to the benefit of cooperation in transport and communication, especially in the construction of roads and railways, as these labour-intensive projects would generate many jobs.
Nujoma also laid stress on further cooperation in the international forums, especially within the United Nations framework.
"We cannot overlook the importance of long-term UN reforms, especially within the Security Council," Nujoma said.
He said that United Nations should constantly try to develop an overall vision that focuses on peace, justice and equity throughout the world.
In this spirit, a reformed Security Council must better reflect the reality of the world today, instead of colonial-styled injustice or cold-war political confrontation, the Namibian President emphasized.--Enditem
