FIRST BATCH OF GUEST WORKERS TO
BE SENT TO MALAYSIA
Ha Noi, March 11 (VNA) -- Viet Nam will send 300 people to work at
Malaysia's Hualon Textile Plant, according to Viet Nam's Labour Overseas
Development Corporation (LOD) General Director Vu Cong Binh.
This will be the first batch of Vietnamese guest workers sent to
that country as a result of a recent labour cooperation contract signed between
Malaysia's plant and LOD from Viet Nam's Transport and Communications Ministry.
"These Vietnamese workers, aged between 21-30, will receive a
total monthly payment of USD 263 each at the minimum, including USD 119 for
their 8-hour/day labour," Binh told Lao Dong newspaper.
He added "Their total income will be USD 307 each if they work
over-night from 23hrs to 11hrs the next day."
"Under the contract," Binh said, "the Malaysian
partner will pay for their meals, accommodation and costs of daily travels
between their homes and workplaces, as well as one-way air fare from Malaysia to
Viet Nam."
"They will also be given healthcare insurance during their
three-year labour tenure which may be extended for two more years if agreed upon
by the employer and the employee," the general director stressed. However,
he said, each worker will pay USD 800 in advance, including USD 250 for his/her
deposit.
Other Vietnamese businesses involved in labour export have also
sent missions to Malaysia to explore the market and many of them have signed
framework contracts with Malaysian brokers. These include Vinaconex, Coalimex,
Tracimexco, Traenco, Sona, Sovilaco and Van Xuan.
According to Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, Deputy Director of the Department
for Labour Export Management under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and
Social Affairs, Viet Nam will be able to send as many as 200,000 workers to
Malaysia.--VNA
