LAO AND VIETNAMESE PROVINCES
PROMOTE COOPERATION
Vientiane, June 5 (VNA) -- Sekong
province in Laos along with Viet Nam's Da Nang city and the central provinces of
Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue have agreed to promote cooperation in ensuring
border security, and boosting economic relations.
During a recent visit to the three Vietnamese localities, a
delegation from Sekong province led by Buloi Chanvangkham, Deputy Secretary of
the Party Committee and Deputy Head of the Administration Committee of Sekong,
held working sessions with the leadership of these neighbouring areas. They
reviewed bilateral cooperation in furtherance of the Laos-Viet Nam Friendship
Cooperation Agreement over the past 25 years. They discussed measures to
continue cooperation in maintaining security and safety along the common borders
and to fight cross-border smuggling and drug trafficking gangs, as well as to
expand economic and cultural cooperation.
Sekong province will create opportunities for State-owned and
private businesses from Quang Nam, Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue to invest in the
province, particularly in building farm produce processing, mechanical
engineering establishments, and industrial crop cultivation. Additionally,
Sekong will cooperate with Thua Thien-Hue to organise a border market in order
to expand trade, boost production, and improve people's living conditions in the
border areas.
Meanwhile, a cultural and information delegation from Da Nang city
visited Laos's Borikhamsay province with the aim of expanding cooperation
between the two localities.--
