Co-operation with Cambodian energy industry lauded

Prime Minister Hun Sen praised the co-operation and work of Industry Ministry officials from Cambodia and Vietnam in their efforts to further the development of both economies.

Prime Minister Hun Sen made the remark at his June 5 reception for the Vietnamese Industry Minister, Dang Vu Chu, who has been in Cambodia for a three-day official visit which began on June 4.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said he was pleased at the pace of the installation of electricity transmission lines from Vietnam to Cambodia.

He noted that one of the Cambodian Royal government's top priorities in developing the national economy is to modernise the energy sector. That move, which aimed at easing the shortage of electricity in Cambodia, relies on the purchase of electricity from neighbouring countries, including Vietnam.

He expressed his hope that the energy sectors of the two countries will soon draw up a joint project on Vietnam's assistance in creating a geographical map for Cambodia.

Minister Chu said that with traditional solidarity and mutual assistance between the two countries, the two energy industries should increase efforts in implementing signed co-operation agreements.

Vietnam is willing to co-operate with Cambodia in the energy industry immediately in order to carry out agreements on electricity trading between the two countries, including meeting Cambodia's request to increase the number of power stations, clarified the minister.

He acknowledged Cambodia's requests for Vietnam's assistance in training Cambodian officials and technicians in the field.

During June 4-6 visit to Cambodia, the delegation held talks with a delegation of Cambodia's Ministry of Industry, Mining and Energy. The two delegations signed a co-operation agreement. (VNA)
