Programmer makes US $8,450 per year

A Vietnamese software programmer makes an average of US $8,450 per year, according to a report by the Ho Chi Minh City Computer Association released on July 25.

The report, including survey results of 26 software businesses with 1,040 programmers, shows that total revenue from the industry in 2002 is US $8.8 million, an increase of 30% compared with the figure for 2000.

The highest average revenue per programmer is from Vancat Company, at US $39,000 per year.

The earnings in Vietnam is much lower compared with US $20,000 for India and US $100,000 for the United States.

The government has set a goal of earning US $500 million from the software industry in 2005, with a team of 25,000 professional programmers.
