Over one million tonnes of sugar produced

The target of over one million tonnes of sugar for the 2001-2002 crop was met recently.

Forty three plants produced 760,000 tonnes while other establishments produced 300,000 tonnes.

Vietnam has a total area of 320,000 hectares for this year’s crop, an increase of 17,000 hectares against the same period last year, with an average yield of 50 tonnes per hectare.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed measures to fight smugglers while asking the government, relevant agencies and localities not to permit the import of sugar.
