USD 15.1 BILLION FROM EXPORTS IN 2001
Ha Noi, Dec. 26 (VNA)
-- Viet Nam registered an export turnover of USD 15.1 billion
this year, a 4.5 percent year-on-year increase.
Domestic enterprises contributed USD 8,352 million
and foreign-invested enterprises, USD 6,748 million, according
to the General Statistics Office.
Recording higher year-on-year growth rates were
vegetables and fruit, with turnover of USD 305 million (up 43
percent); seafood with USD 1.8 billion (up 21.7 percent); and
coal with USD 108 million (up 15.3 percent).
Although its export volume increased by more than
10 percent, key export item as crude oil saw a drop of 9.3
percent in export turnover to almost USD 3.2 billion this year.
Other items including rice, coffee, pepper, cashew
nuts, and rubber also suffered losses in export turnover.
Meanwhile, this year's import turnover was valued
at USD 16 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.3 percent.
Import of automobiles recorded highest year-on-year
increase of 84.4 percent, with 49,600 pieces worth USD 427
million.
Other import items recording high growth rates were
chemicals (up 20 percent), iron and steel (up 15 percent),
materials for the textile-garment and leather industries (up 13
percent), and machinery and equipment (up 5.2 percent).--VNA
