Malaysia interested in buying Russian fighter jets

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad says he is considering a defence deal to buy Russian military aircraft.

Mr Mahathir told the Russian media in Moscow that he is looking at purchasing Russian Sukhoi SU-30 fighter aircraft, he added.

He is scheduled to witness a demonstration of the SU-30 during his four-day stay in the Russian capital.

He later told reporters he had discussed a military equipment deal at a meeting on Thursday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Mahathir says there are now new prospects for improving trade and military cooperation with Russia.
