Farmer gets rich by raising crocodiles

Mr Nguyen Trung Tinh, 32, a farmer in Phong Thanh Nam village, Phuoc Long district, Bac Lieu province has become rich by raising crocodiles.

His family originally farmed shrimps to make their living. But Mr Tinh became interested in new models for household business and decided to visit households raising crocodiles to learn how it is done. He started his crocodile breeding project in 1996 with an initial capital of VND 24 million which he raised from different sources. He bought 15 crocodiles to farm. After two years, he sold them and earned nearly VND 60 million, of which VND 25 million was profit.

Next he raised 45 crocodiles and he earned VND 63 million profit after a year and a half. Now he has 20 crocodiles about one year old and 50 young ones about four months old. He said he would be able to earn VND 100 million profit in 2002.
