Foreign Trade of China Surpasses US$500 Billion in 2001

China's total foreign trade volume amounted to 509.77 billion U.S. dollars in 2001, an increase of 7.5 percent from the previous year, according to statistics from the General Administration of Customs

China's total foreign trade volume amounted to 509.77 billion U.S. dollars in 2001, an increase of 7.5 percent from the previous year, according to statistics from the General Administration of Customs.

Of the total, exports were valued at 266.16 billion U.S. dollars, up 6.8 percent; and imports totaled 243.61 billion U.S. dollars, up 8.2 percent. The year 2001 saw a favorable balance of 22.55 billion U.S. dollars.

In December 2001, the foreign trade volume grew 8.1 percent to 46.89 billion U.S. dollars, with exports up 11.5 to 24.5 billion U.S. dollars and imports up 4.6 percent to 22.39 billion U.S. dollars, leaving a favorable balance of 2.11 billion U.S. dollars.
